Rage
Derby name origin: My original derby name was Valcoholic Rage, which was a play on my first name, Valerie. I chose the number 18 because the 18th Amendment’s prohibition on the sale of alcohol and I liked having a link to the law because I’m an attorney. A couple years ago, however, I started getting increasingly uncomfortable with the “Valcoholic” part of my name. I didn’t want to make light of substance abuse and/or domestic violence so I dropped it. I kind of miss having a two word name and I’ve actually considered changing it to Just Rage. But for now, I’m Rage.

Pre-Bout ritual: The day of, I eat bananas like it’s my job. I also create a new playlist for every bout and listen to it as much as I can. At the venue, I like gearing up early and getting a feel for the floor. I also like watching opponents warmups to figure out playing style and making mental notes on individual jammers’ strengths and weaknesses.
