As the only women’s, flat-track roller derby league in Montgomery County, MD, Free State Roller Derby (FSRD) is hometown and homegrown. Founded in November 2009, FSRD is 100 percent volunteer-run by a growing group of devoted skaters and Fresh Meat, and is backed by a dedicated crew of referees and non-skating officials (NSOs).

FSRD is a 501(c)(3) organization.

What do you do for FSRD? I skate for the Rock Villains

Hometown: I grew up and went to college in the Philadelphia area, but I moved to the DC area in 2012 and have considered it my home since

When did you start skating? February 2017.

What do you do in the real world? I work as an Environmental Scientist by day, and frequent live music shows, breweries, and my Netflix queue by night.

Tell us more about your decision to join roller derby: On a random whim, I attended an open house and decided to join the Fresh Meat program. Everyone was really awesome and I found that I was having a bananas amount of fun learning how to skate and hit. At some point I said to myself “I guess I’m doing this roller derby thing now!" and that was that!

What's your favorite derby memory? uh, all of them.

What is your secret talent? I can wink with both of my eyes at the same time (some people call it a "blink"). Yeah, it's totally bananas, I know!

Notable injuries: I once took an accidental elbow to the face during a scrimmage and ended up with a black eye, yeahhhh!

Likes: sushi, Phil Collins, my bananas cat, my adorable gecko, being active, spending time outdoors, and describing crazy or fantastic things as "bananas."

Dislikes: The feeling of intense dread you get when you realize that you forgot your Chapstick, causing you to question if you have an unhealthy addiction to a lip moisturizing product.

She'll stab your heart and leave you in the dust! It's number 11, BUFFY THE JAMPIRE SKATER!
