As the only women’s, flat-track roller derby league in Montgomery County, MD, Free State Roller Derby (FSRD) is hometown and homegrown. Founded in November 2009, FSRD is 100 percent volunteer-run by a growing group of devoted skaters and Fresh Meat, and is backed by a dedicated crew of referees and non-skating officials (NSOs).

FSRD is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Derby name origin: I wanted something short that started with the letters in my actual name. I am the baby in my family so I related and always liked the character from the Flintstones - Bam Bam

When did you join roller derby? January 2019.

What brought you to Free State? I saw it on tv years ago and always wanted to try.

How did you find Free State? I googled roller derby teams near me and found the website.

Which leagues/teams are you affiliated with? (e.g. Suzies, Villains, Team Maryland, DCRG, CCRG, etc)

Freestate.

Are you a member of any committees or have off-skates roles?

I have been helping to create some of the designs for a few of the bout posters.

Do you have a skating/athletic background?

No.

Likes/Dislikes: I think that derby can be a little scary and intimidating sometimes but overall it is very empowering. I like to learn and gain new strengths over time.

Pre-Bout ritual: Pick something cool to wear.

Roller Derby hero: Surly Temper - she is so good at everything derby and has been a wonderful fresh meat instructor.

Motivational Quote: Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, all you have to do is turn on the light.
