Name & Number: Psyche Drama, 5^ (my little carrot is not allowed on our jerseys anymore but it was my original #)
Preferred Position: I love both jamming and blocking. I love jamming because of the challenge of getting through quickly or strategically when the other team isn't paying attention, and of course the glory of getting all the points and the crowd cheering you on. I love blocking because it means working with my sisters on the track, touching them ALL THE TIME and accomplishing amazing things when we make the other team's jammer truly miserable.
Hometown: Born in Washington D.C. and I've lived various places in MD: Wheaton, Bowie, Boonsboro, Hagerstown, and Frederick. When I joined Free State I actually lived in WV and commuted almost an hour each way to skate despite there being a team much closer because there is no other team/league like Free State (and because the infamous Slaughter Lily recruited me and probably wouldn't let me go).
What I Do In Real Life: I'm a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Advocate at a residential treatment facility. Which doesn't clarify anything for anyone unless you're also in the mental health field. Basically I work with teens who are in residential treatment for a variety of reasons and do basic counseling, tutoring, mentoring through good bad/decision making skills, and advocating for our students. It's a mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically exhausting job but is totally worth it when you get to see and are a part of creating major improvements in the lives of the kids.
Secret Talent: Zen Master, maybe because of the needed skill of staying calm in my work/excessive yoga but I've twice won team awards based on my ability to stay cool on the track and I've only ever lost it once at practice in five years of skating (and that was after being bashed into a wall about four times in a row in one jam).
Notable Injuries: Broken wrist October 2014, concussion June 2014, concussion May 2013. ALL my injuries have been at practice ;) Free State trains hard frequently doing drills at 100% of bout effort which is part of what makes us successful as a team but also means greater chance for injury just like during any full contact sport.
Likes: Chocolate, Yoga, running, hiking, reading, knitting, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all things Joss Whedon
Dislikes: Spiders, mushrooms, olives, anything in vinegar, morning shifts at work which start at 7am and mean I have to get up at 5:30am
Try not to let her psych you out, because you'll never be the same! It's number 5, PSYCHE DRAMA!
